Apple – Samsung, Million Dollar Feud!

Apple - Samsung, Million Dollar Feud!

Samsung has one motto to live by, “if you can’t beat them monetize them.” Samsung makes a lot of money from iPhone sales but they make even more money when iPhones don’t sell well.

Back then in 2019, Apple had to pay nearly 684m dollars to Samsung for ordering fewer OLED displays compared to what they initially agreed on. In 2020 because of the same reason they paid almost a billion dollars. And now seems like history might repeat itself.

The iPhone 12 Mini isn’t selling well that’s why Apple decided to cut back its production leading to about a 9% drop in Samsung’s OLED display sales. This once again will likely impact the initial numbers that Samsung and Apple had decided, which is bad news for Apple because Samsung could once again fine them a huge amount of money.

Apple can’t escape Samsung because they are too good in OLED displays. Samsung has already secured big money on the iPhone 13 series, acc to South Korean media, Samsung will be supplying all the iPhone 13 models with its 120 Hz OLED screens. further, the display technology for the upcoming iPhone 13 is expected to be advanced compared to the iPhone 12 models. As per the reports, two of the four models debuting next year will use low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LPTO) thin-film transistors (TFT) but BOE lags behind in this compared to Samsung Display.

Now despite the sales of the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 13 is still coming with one of the leaks that it will have a bigger battery combined with a brand new Apple A15 chip which is going to make things very efficient and also bring updates over the previous iPhone 12 mini.

This rivalry between Samsung and Apple has been for years, Both companies suing each other for patent rivalry, On 27-Jun-2018, Apple and Samsung settled a seven-year legal fight on Wednesday, ending the most prominent case in a series of lawsuits over smartphone patents over the last decade. The companies did not disclose the settlement amount. A jury in May ordered Samsung to pay Apple $539 million for infringing on its patents.

Apart from this million-dollar story of Apple ft. Samsung. Apple could bring some change in their smartwatch series. According to Bloomberg, Apple is considering launching the Rugged Watch Series for their extreme sports users.
