Snap Inc. announced new spectacles that will let you see the world in Augmented Reality. Now you’ll be able to see digital objectives in the real world. How cool is that, right!
We all are aware of how good is Snapchat with filters, lenses, and artificial camera results. But this is something special. News arrived on Thursday via Snapchat’s Developer Keynote. Users can see computer-generated visuals layered on their field of view in the actual world with the new glasses.
Talking about its components, two cameras, four microphones, a touchpad, and control buttons are included in the Spectacles. Users can now offer the device audio commands by saying, “Hey Snapchat.” The new Spectacles come with a battery life of 30 minutes.
The glasses offer a 26.3-inch diagonal field of view, 2,000 nits of brightness, and dual waveguide screens. They appear like thick sunglasses and include a touchpad control on the side. According to Snapchat, they have a “Snap Spatial Engine” with hand-tracking, can track the world with six degrees of freedom, and weighs 134 grams (4.7 ounces).
The range of view appears narrower than AR headsets like Microsoft’s HoloLens and Magic Leap, but it is also far smaller. The glasses can also record video at 1,920×1,440 pixels and 30 frames per second using two RGB cameras with a 115-degree field of vision.
“I spoke with Clay Weishaar, Snap’s made it so you don’t even change your workflow: you just put your glasses on, and you hit one button, and your vision is realized in front of you, which is super cool. I see location-based experiences and health and wellness as two areas of interest with these AR glasses.
I’ve used Headspace and these tools, and they’re supposed to be relaxing, but you have to hold your phone up and you’re actually getting fatigued, I really wanted to create this sort of relaxation and wellness experience inside of the glasses.”Scot Stein wrote on Cnet.com
To sum of the whole conversation about the user experience of these spectacles in a nutshell,
“It’s more vibrant. If you’ve got a blue sky and look at AR in the sunlight, it’s vibrant. That was one big thing I noticed. I walked outside and my mind was blown because I know how displays can get outdoors, as you do.”Clay Weishaar – AR Creator
Snap CEO, Spiegel looks optimistic about the future of these AR glasses. He thinks these head-worn devices like spectacles will be a paradigm shift in the world of technology. Modern tech requires modern ways of communication!
Price of this dope tech is yet to be revealed. Till now, there’s no update or any rumor about the pricing but somehow it will be considered as a flagship device.
