Xiaomi has become a popular brand among consumers to provide flagship-level features in the mid-range consumer market and now they are back with a new smartphone that becomes a straight competitor for the upcoming Samsung S22 series.
Xiaomi 12 Ultra is expected to have a 200MP smartphone camera that will take smartphone photography to another level. This comes from a popular leaker Digital Chat Station, posting on Chinese social media platform Weibo, who said: “with a minimum engineering machine is two hundred million pixels.”
Xiaomi has been doing innovations for a very long time and Xiaomi 12 could be the first phone to come with 200W charging. Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra with awesome specs and powerful cameras perform well in the market and now, we’ll see how amazing Xiaomi 12 Ultra would be, in the coming months.
That initial rumor suggested the handset would have a 192MP or 200MP camera, and it’s possible the latter spec was just rounded up from the former and doesn’t refer to two separate possibilities.
Digital Chat Station, in the new Weibo post, continues “the other two [members of the Mi 12 range] are large with high-end 50mp, 5x periscope with high-quality and high-quality ultra-wide-angle super-telephoto” which suggests the Mi 12 and Mi 12 Pro could inherit a similar camera array to the Mi 11 Ultra.
If anything, this rumor adds credence to the idea that one of the Xiaomi 12 series will have a super-high-resolution camera, though we’re still not sure which. Oh, and wondering why we’re calling it the Xiaomi 12, not the Xiaomi Mi 12? Well, it’s because the company recently changed the way its naming system works.

To let our readers get a better understanding of how these huge megapixels work? It’s basically pixel binning, it is a process that sees data from four pixels combined into one. So a camera sensor with tiny 0.9-micron pixels will produce results equivalent to 1.8-micron pixels when taking a pixel-binned shot.
The biggest downside of this technique is that your resolution is effectively divided by four when taking a pixel-binned shot. So that means a binned shot on a 48MP camera is actually 12MP. Instead of megapixel numbers, try to focus more on sensor size because that’s what exactly matters!
This might be the first or second 200MP camera smartphone to arrive in the coming months, Samsung s22 Ultra is also expected to arrive with a 200MP camera sensor in collaboration with Olympus, one of the vintage camera companies.
Recently, Xiaomi confirmed it was dropping the ‘Mi’ name from its main series of phones. Xiaomi 12 Ultra is expected to arrive in November 2021 and we believe Xiaomi must be doing something crazy with this device.
