Signal is introducing a new feature that will allow users to change phone numbers on their account without losing any of their existing chats, groups, or messages within the secure messaging app.
To add a new number, you must be able to receive Signal messages sent to your old number. Then, go to Signal’s account settings and select “Change Phone Number” option, where you’ll be asked to enter both the old and new phone numbers.
Finally, Signal will walk you through the standard registration process for linking a phone number to one of its accounts.

Contacts you’ve been chatting with in Signal will see a new message inline in your thread notifying them that you’ve changed their phone number, along with a helpful link to update your contact card accordingly, once you’ve successfully updated your number. But, most importantly, you will not lose your existing threads or groups.
The new feature is intended for users who want to keep their current phone but get a new phone number — if you’re just upgrading to a new phone and want to keep everything, you’ll need to use Signal’s local data transfer feature to transfer your data from your old device to your new one.
